Modelling a Multi-phase Plume in a Cross-flow - an Agricultural Application

چکیده

A generalized set of equations of motion suitable for modelling a multi-phase plume in a crossow have been identi ed. Simpli cation of the equations is presented for a fully evolved two phase three dimensional plume of low curvature by using radially averaged values of velocity and droplet radius to calculate the tangential momentum balance between the phases. This balance, augmented to include the e ects of an induced boundary layer ow, is then combined with a normal force component generated by the crossow to allow the trajectory of the plume to be determined. Particular attention is paid to use of the equations in conjunction with a liquid droplet ballistics model to simulate the water distributions as produced by medium and large scale irrigation sprinklers, (guns), operating in cross winds.

CO2 Capture by Dual Hollow Fiber Membrane Systems

In this paper, a system for efficient removal of carbon dioxide by hollow fiber membranes is proposed. The system is compact, and it is very useful for application in the offshore energy industries. In particular, it is used to removing CO2 from the exhaust of power generation facilities on offshore platforms. The proposed dual membrane contactor contains two types of membranes (polypropylene me...

Particle Rotation Effects in Rarefied Two-Phase Plume Flows

We evaluate the effects of solid particle rotation in high-altitude solid rocket exhaust plume flows, through the development and application of methods for the simulation of two phase flows involving small rotating particles and a nonequilibrium gas. Green’s functions are derived for the force, moment, and heat transfer rate to a rotating solid sphere within a locally free-molecular gas, and i...

Three-dimensional visualization of multi-phase (oil/gas/hydrate) plumes

Abstract Visualization of multi-phase jets and plumes is a relatively new subject. Discussions on how to visualize them have not been seen elsewhere. Multi-phase jets and plumes (e.g. a plume from a deep water blowout that consist of a mixture of oil, gas, and gas hydrates) undergo phase changes during the transport of fluids up the water column. Effectively visualizing all the pertinent jet or...
